What is "Summer Sunburn"?
While Rock Creek may be the most environmentally friendly course you ever play, it is not the most environmentally resistant. The lack of irrigation on the fairways and the abundance of trees (thus insufficient sunlight and air circulation) produce course conditions in the summer that are far from ideal. During the high temp months -- typically from mid-June through September -- golfers should be prepared for bare patches on the tee boxes and fairways and occasional brown spots on the greens. It's like Rock Creek's "off-season" is during the golf season...
That said, the beauty of Rock Creek Park is unmistakable, and the shade makes it a great course to play when the sun is out. Rock Creek is a unique course and quite challenging, but it also can be friendly for new golfers especially when the course is less busy in the summer months. Whether you're new to the game or experienced, Rock Creek offers everyone in-town convenience and a welcoming, casual atmosphere.
What is the Summer Course Conditions Scorecard?
To help you get a clear view of the current course conditions at Rock Creek during the summer months, we've created a "Summer Course Conditions Scorecard." Before and during these difficult golf course maintenance months, our Rock Creek staff rate the course conditions hole by hole -- tees, fairways and greens -- and tally a total score for each hole on a scale of 1 to 10. We report the hole by hole and overall score on this scorecard so you know what to expect during your next Rock Creek visit. For details, see the Course Conditions Rating Legend on the Scorecard below.
